Cotton-harvesting campaign is progressing in Tajikistan and cotton growers have reached more than 16 percent of this year’s cotton target by September.  The 2019 cotton has been determined at 400,000 tons of cotton.

This year, Tajik farmers have planted cotton on an area of 185,670 hectares, which is 1,700 hectares more than last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).   

136,000 people are reportedly involved in cotton-picking campaign this year, and they are currently yielding a total of 6 tons of raw cotton per day.  They receive 40-60 diram per kilogram of raw cotton.

Cotton-growers of Shahritous district (Khatlon province) are leading the cotton-harvesting campaign.  They have already reached 60 percent of their cotton target.

Cotton-growers of Khatlon province plan to yield more than 275,000 tons of raw cotton this year.

Last year, Tajik cotton-grower yielded more than 300,000 tons of raw cotton, which was 22.3 percent fewer than in 2017.      .
