Two persons have got lengthy jail terms for disseminating counterfeit U.S. dollars.  They have reportedly disseminated about 10,000 fake U.S dollars  in Dushanbe and districts subordinate to the center.

A court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced the 29-year-old resident of Tursunzoda Abdulaziz Shukurov and the 38-year-old resident of Dushanbe Murod Qayumov to eight years in prison each on January 18.

The sentence followed their conviction on charges of manufacturing or marketing fake money or documents (Article 281 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  They will serve their term in a high-security penal colony.

Since the provisions of the amnesty law that was adopted in October last year were applied to them, they will spend 5 ½ years in prison each.

An official source within the Ismoili Somoni court says Shukurov brought in 20,000 fake U.S. dollars from Turkey in July last year and Qayumov helped him with disseminating them.

In August, they reportedly managed to exchange 10,000 fake U.S. dollars for the national currency in Dushanbe and districts subordinate to the center.
