By president’s instruction an extraordinary session of Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament (Majlisi Oli) is taking place in Dushanbe today to consider the issue of appointment and relieving of the Prosecutor-General, according to the Tajik president’s official website

The second issue tabled to the session’s agenda is endorsement of amendment made to the country’s law on privatization of state-owned properties.  

Under Tajikistan’s legislation, the Majlisi Milli elects and recalls the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President and gives consent to the appointment and relieving of the Procurator General and his deputies.  

Yusuf Rahmon was born on March 22, 1966 in the Vose district of the Khatlon province 

Yusuf Rahmon has served as Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Tajikistan since January 23, 2015.  Prior to this, he had served as first deputy head of President’s Executive Office since December 14, 2014. 

From January 30, 2012 to December 14, Yusuf Rahmon served as head of the Public Security Department at the Security Council of Tajikistan.  From March 5, 2010 to January 30, 2012, he served as chief prosecutor in the Sughd province.  From February 2004 to March 5, 2010, Yusuf Rahmon was Chief Military Prosecutor of Tajikistan.       

Yusuf Rahmon married with five children.
