The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) has begun registering international observers to monitor parliamentary elections in Tajikistan.
Belarus and the CIS Executive Committee were the first to respond to the Tajik authorities’ invitation to send their observers to monitor parliamentary elections in Tajikistan, an official source within the CCER told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the CCER on February 5 officially registered ten international observers, including eight representatives of the CIS long-term observation mission led by its head Sergey Lebedev and two representatives of the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus.
The CCER says more than 500 international observers are expected to monitor parliamentary elections in Tajikistan this year.
Tajikistan has officially applied to nations, CIS Executive Committee, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to send their observers to Dushanbe to monitor the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 1.
Besides, about 1,000 local observers are expected to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country.
