A joint ant-terror military exercise will be conducted for servicemen of Tajik and Uzbek Special Forces in Tajikistan this week.

An active phase of the exercise, involving one company of Uzbek Special Forces and three companies of Tajik Special Forces as well as armored vehicles, artillery and aviation, will take place at the Fakhrobod training ground in the Khatlon province from March 11-14, an official source at the Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Today, the servicemen are carrying a physical reconnaissance at the Fakhrobod training ground, according to him,

The purpose of the exercise is rehearse coordination and interaction in combat missions on destroying terrorist groups at the junction of the borders of the two countries, the source added.

Recall, the first joint exercise of the military personnel of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were held September 18-22, 2018. The exercise was held at the “Chorrukh-Dayron” training center and the “Nurafshon” training ground located in the Sughd province.

The second joint exercise for Tajik and Uzbek military personnel took place at Gurumsarai training ground in Uzbekistan’s Namangan region last year.  The exercise scenario was reportedly based on destroying terrorist groups in the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan.

This five-day exercise lasted for five days in early September last year.
