On Thursday April 9, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Qasym-Jomart Toqayev.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, they discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries and regional cooperation

President Rahmon reportedly expressed gratitude to the government and the leadership of Kazakhstan for humanitarian aid provided to Tajikistan “in this difficult period for all us.”

Rahmon also noted that Tajikistan could provide Kazakhstan’s market with early fruits and vegetables, including onions, in the required volumes.

Besides, Rahmon and Toqayev discussed the global spread of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the situation in the two countries against the background of coronavirus pandemic.

They reportedly noted the significance of further expansion of regional cooperation and coordination of joint efforts to combat coronavirus effects.

Tajik president noted Kazakhstan’s timely response to the threat of spread of the dangerous infection and highly appraised measures taken by the leadership and government of this country, the Tajik president’s official website said.

Recall, Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev wrote on his Twitter page on April 7 that Kazakhstan is ready to provide humanitarian aid to the Central Asian nations to combat COVID-19.

Kazakh president’s press service has released a statement, in which Toqayev notes that Kazakhstan “is a leader in the region” and that is why it is obligated to help countries in need of assistance

Toqayev has reportedly made this statement after the visit to the center or transportation and logistics in Nur-Sultan, where food products for residents of the region are stored.

Kazakh leader, in particular, noted that Kazakhstan is currently forming a state reserve of socially significant goods worth 14.8 billion tenge (equivalent to 33.6 million U.S. dollars).
