On Wednesday April 15, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon appointed six members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).

By president decree the following persons were appointed as members of the Majlisi Milli of the sixth convocation:

  • Mr. Farhod Rahimi – President of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan;
  • Ms. Husniya Rajabzoda – Chairperson of the Murgab District of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO); 
  • Mr. Hasan Doustzoda – Chairman of the Nourobod District;
  • Mr. Qosim Nizom – Chairman of Writers’ Union of Tajikistan;
  • Mr. Maqsoudali Uamralizoda – Principal of School No 23, Jaloliddin-Balkhi District, Khatlon Province.  
  • Mr. Burhoniddin Jabbori – Head of the Konibodom Education Department, Sughd Province.  

Majlisi Oli (the Supreme Assembly) is a bicameral parliament of Tajikistan.

Majlisi Milli (the National Assembly) is the upper chamber of Tajikistan's parliament.  It has 33 members: 25 elected for a five-year term by deputies of local councils (majlis) and eight appointed by the president.  By right, former presidents are members for life.
