Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) today voted for ratification of an agreement on solid waste management in Kulob that was signed between the Government of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in February this year.

Presenting the agreement to lawmakers, Tajik Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda noted that the EBRD would provide 4 million U.S. dollars, including a US$2 million grant, for implementation of the Kulob Solid Waste Management Project.

Besides, the EBRD will provide 850,000 euros in echnical assistance, the minister said.

The project is part of Tajikistan Solid Waste Framework, approved by the EBRD Board in December 2014.

It will help bring current waste management operations in Kulob closer to corresponding EU requirements.  In particular it is expected reduce environmental risks caused by uncontrolled dust emissions and effluents.
