Tajik, Afghan leaders have telephone conversation to discuss counterterrorism and energy projects

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani have discussed resistance to international terrorism and extremism in a telephone conversation.

Emomali Rahmon and Ashraf Ghani had a telephone conversation on August 21, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The two leader reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion bilateral cooperation between their countries.        

Rahmon and Ghani in particular,  discussed further expansion bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the fields of energy, transportation, education and science, information and culture.

It was noted that the interstate cooperation was one of priorities of foreign policy of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the Tajik president’s official website said.  

They also exchanged views on an active participation of the two countries in implementation of small and large regional and international projects in various spheres, including the CASA-1000 project in the energy sector.

The two sides also discussed issues related to expansion of cooperation in the fields of security, strengthening border management, combating international terrorism and extremism, transnational organized crime and drug trafficking.  

In the course of the telephone conversation, Rahmon and Ghani reached an agreement on arrival of the Afghan government working group in Tajikistan to discuss ways of further expansion of multi0sided cooperation between the two countries.
