The Central Election Commission of Tajikistan denied registration to the nominee from the Democratic Party of the Republic Saidjafar Usmonzoda as a presidential candidate.

Usmonzoda in an interview with Asia-Plus said that he did not intend to challenge this decision of the CEC, "since the disputes on this issue are useless today".

The CEC of Tajikistan considered the documents submitted for registration by Saidjafar Usmonzoda at a meeting on September 14.

According to the legislation of the country, the nominated candidate for the presidency must be supported by five percent of the number of citizens of the republic who have the right to vote.

According to the CEC, the Tajik Democratic candidate failed to collect the required number of signatures in his support. Recall that in the current elections it is at least 245 thousand 100 signatures.

For the same reason, self-nominated candidate Faromuz Irgashov was not registered.

On September 13, the CEC registered five candidates for the presidency.

Presidential elections in Tajikistan scheduled for October 11.
