Russia ready to accept 101,800 labor migrants from visa required countries next year

Date:

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed a decree approving the quota for foreigners entering the Russian Federation on the basis of visa, Parliamentskaya Gazeta (Parliament Newspaper) says.

Under these decree, Russia is reportedly ready to accept 101,800 labor migrants from the visa required countries next year.

Next year, the highest need for employees is expected to be in mining and construction industries and repairing works, the newspaper says.  31,625 employees will be employed in these sectors.

Besides, it is permitted to recruit nearly 17,000 foreign skilled employees for work at large and small industrial enterprises and nearly 12,000 others for work in metal-working and engineering industries.

Recall, the Russian authorities have significantly cut quotas for obtaining a temporary residence permit for foreign nationals and stateless persons.

By government’s decree 39,325 such quotas will be allocated in 2021.

60,270 quotas for obtaining a temporary residence permit for foreign citizens and stateless persons have been allocated this year.

83,480 such quotas were allocated in 2019, and 90,360 such quotas were allocated or foreign nationals in 2018.

According to the statistical data from the Russian Interior Ministry, the number of labor migrants in Russia in September decreased by almost a quarter year on year and amounted to some 1.8 million people against 2.8 million people reported in September last year.

Citizens of Central Asia’s nations don't need visas to enter Russia.  But once in the country, many are unable to find legal employment, mainly because employers are reluctant to pay taxes and seek the required permits.
