Wage arrears in Tajikistan amount to about 72.5 million somonis

Given the previous years, wage arrears in Tajikistan have amounted to about 72.5 million somonis (equivalent to 6.4 million U.S. dollars) as of November 1, 2020, according the Agency for Statistics under President of Tajikistan.

As of October 1, 2020, wage arrears in Tajikistan reportedly amounted to 74.8 million somonis (equivalent to 6.6 million U.S. dollars).

Over the first ten months of this year, employers have reportedly owed their employees 40.1 million somonis, which is 55 percent of the total volume of wage arrears (given the previous years). 

The highest wage arrears were reported in April (15.1 million somonis) and August (10.8 million somonis). 

The highest wage arrears have been reported in the processing industry – 22.2 million somonis.

It is followed by construction sector (18.3 million somonis) and mining sector (15.5 million somonis)

It is to be noted that coronavirus pandemic has negatively affected many sectors of the country’s economy, and as a result, employers have failed to pay wages to their employees on time and in full volume. 

As of November 1, 2020, an average monthly nominal wage in Tajikistan amounted to 1,478 somonis (equivalent to 130 U.S. dollars).

Tajikistan's minimum wage is 400.00 somoni per month.

In Tajikistan, the highest average monthly wage has been reported in the financial sector – 3,598 somonis.

The lowest average monthly wage has been reported in the agrarian sector – 624 somonis.
