Along with Cameroon, Guatemala, Iran, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mozambique and Nigeria Tajikistan with 25 scores has been ranked 149th in the 2020 Transparency International (IT)’s Corruption Perceptions Index.
Among the Central Asian nations, only Turkmenistan with 19 scores is below Tajikistan in the ranking
Uzbekistan with 26 scores is ranked 146th, Kyrgyzstan with 31 scores is ranked 124th, and Kazakhstan with 38 scores is ranked 94th.
The 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) paints a grim picture of the state of corruption worldwide. While most countries have made little to no progress in tackling corruption in nearly a decade, more than two-thirds of countries score below 50. TI’s analysis shows corruption not only undermines the global health response to COVID-19, but contributes to a continuing crisis of democracy
The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
With an average score of 36, Eastern Europe and Central Asia is the second-lowest performing region on the CPI and vulnerable to corruption compounded by COVID-19.
The top countries on the CPI are Denmark and New Zealand, with scores of 88, followed by Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland, with scores of 85 each.
The bottom countries are South Sudan and Somalia, with scores of 12 each, followed by Syria (14), Yemen (15) and Venezuela (15).
