Rahmon calls on Tajik border guards to fulfill their duty honorably.

Date:

President Emomali Rahmon today congratulated Tajik border guards on their professional holiday.

The head of state called on border guards to be vigilant in this difficult period and to serve honorably  in the name of protecting the Motherland, the state and the people, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

A commemorative event called “Faithful Border Guards of the Motherland” took place today in the Park named after Ustod Roudaki.

The Main Border Guard Directorate of Tajikistan is an agency of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) and the anniversary of the founding of Tajik Border Troops has been celebrated regularly since May 28, 1994.  This annual event is known as the Border Guards Day.

This year, Tajikistan’s border service celebrates the 27th anniversary of its formation.

Border Guards Day is a former Soviet holiday that celebrates the border guard services of Russia and former Soviet republics.  It is currently observed in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Moldova on May 28 — the day of the anniversary of the formation of the Soviet Border Troops in 1918.

Tajikistan has recognized May 28 as Border Guards Day since its independence in 1991 and celebrates the holiday similarly to Russia.  2014 celebrated the 20th anniversary since the formation of the Tajik Border Troops.  In honor of this anniversary, a military parade was held in Dushanbe.

The Border Troops, also called the Border Service, is the border security force of Tajikistan.  The border guards are trained by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, along with the Afghan Border Police.  A higher education college is located in the capital, Dushanbe, the Border Troops Academy, and a Border Troops Training Centre is located in Roudaki district.
