DUSHANBE, February 7, Asia-Plus — “Galloping drop” in USD/TJS exchange rate is an unnatural process according to economic laws and “absolutely different picture should have been to be observed in Tajikistan,”  Tajik known economist Hojimuhammad Umarov said in an interview with Asia-Plus, commenting on decrease in the USD/TJS market exchange rate in the republic.

“In the third quarter of last year already, index of consumer prices sharply increased in Tajikistan and there ought to expect the USD/TJS exchange rate to increase,” Professor Umarov said.

He added that report on development of Tajikistan’s economy over the last week has also shown that consumer prices in Tajikistan are continuing to rise.

According to him, drop in the USD/TJS exchange rate has been caused artificially.    “President Rahmonov recommended at the last government session that the country’s central bank should not do currency trading intervention for impacting exchange rate of national currency,” Umarov said, supposing that the USD/TJS exchange will increase in the near future.
