Tajik, Pakistani foreign ministers meet in Dushanbe to discuss cooperation

On Monday July 12, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met here with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers reportedly discussed issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, providing regional security, the state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan

The parties, in particular, stressed the importance of expanding trade, economic, investment, scientific and technical ties between the two countries, cooperation in industry and energy, including the implementation of the CASA-1000 project.

The two sides also discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan within the framework of international and regional organizations.

Pakistani media reports say Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday left for Tajikistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of Foreign Ministers (SCO-CFM) meeting.

During his three-day visit to Dushanbe, the foreign minister will address the SCO ministerial council.

Foreign Minister Qureshi will also attend the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group meeting on July 14 and reiterate Pakistan’s stance on the Afghan peace process, the changing regional situation and promotion of regional cooperation, according to a press release.
