Tajik authorities seek to raise standard retirement age

Date:

Tajik authorities are seeking to raise its standard retirement ages for men and women.

“We suggested to raise the standard pension ages to 65 for men and to 60 for women.  But many agencies and organizations, including the Ministry of Labor, have objected to our proposal,” Dilmurod Davlatzoda, the Director of the Agency for Social Insurance and Pensions under the Government of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 21.

Therefore, the current standard retirement ages remain intact: 63 for men and 58 for women.

“However, we will raise this issue once again,” Davlatzoda noted.

He further noted that compared to the previous year, the number of pensioners in Tajikistan has increased this year so far by more than 22,000 people, bringing a total number of pensioners living in the country to 744,785 people.

In Tajikistan, the current average monthly pension amounts to 318.20 somonis.

“Individual entrepreneurs have the lowest pensions because they pay a small social tax.  For example, members of farming units pay the social tax in the amount of only 10 somonis,” Davlatzoda said.

According to him, of more than 306,000 entrepreneurs registered with the Tax Committee, only 122,000 submit reports to the Agency for Social Insurance and Pensions.
