About 160 fleeing Afghan families ask Tajik authorities for permission to cross the border

Date:

Asia-Plus Media Group has received a letter from a certain Ahmad Tahir, who said that he had previously headed a civil society organization in Afghanistan and been adviser to Afghan parliament commission on combating drug trafficking.

The man contacted Asia-Plus on behalf of Afghan refugees (about 160 families), who, according to him, are currently forced to hide from the Taliban in Ishkashim and Shighnan districts of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province and ask for permission to cross the border.

According to him, the majority of them are female human rights activists, civil society activists and soldiers of the national security units of the overthrown Afghan government.

“Approximately 55 days ago, the refugees contacted Tajik border guards, who said that they act in accordance with world of the president of Tajikistan, and that after celebration of the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, they will allow Afghans being in danger to cross the border.  However, there is no news yet.  We ask you to transfer the voice of immigrants to international organizations and Tajikistan authorities,” says the letter.

Ahmad Tahir notes that the refugees are in an extremely difficult position, and if attention is not paid to this, many children can die from colds.  There are also pregnant women among the refugees and they are not in so good position.
