Since the beginning of this week begin, prices for gasoline and diesel fuel in Dushanbe have dropped by 2.7 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices in the Tajik capital have dropped by 4.0 percent over the reporting period.   On November 18, the price for one liter of LNG in Dushanbe was 7.20 somonis (more than 60 percent of the country's motor vehicles use liquefied natural gas as fuel).

A week ago, prices for one liter of the 92-octane gasoline, diesel fuel and LNG in Dushanbe were 11.30 somonis, 11.50 somonis and 7.50 somonis, respectively.

Fuel prices have fallen fell for the first time after steadily rising since June this year.

Officials from the Antimonopoly Agency of Tajikistan said that the price hike has resulted from the rising cost of petroleum products in Russia and Kazakhstan, which provide the bulk of Tajikistan's fuel imports.  Moreover, those countries have reportedly limited sales in connection with harvest season.

Meanwhile, the fuel price hike has led to increase in the price of public transport and basic food products in the country.
