The Emergencies Committee under the Government reported on January 4 that heavy snowfalls and an increase in the temperature background in the mountain areas have increased the risk of further avalanches and rockfalls.

Thus, a number of avalanches were reported on January 3 in some places of the Dushanbe-Chanak highway and on the road connecting Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), and GBAO’s Ishkashim district.

Besides, several avalanches occurred in the Nivodak area of Khorog, the Gozhak area in the Gharibsho Shabozov area of GBAO’s Shugnan district and Sanobod area in GBAO’s Rushan district.

No damage or injured was reported, according to the source

Moreover, the risk of further avalanches on the Dushanbe-Khujand, Dushanbe-Rasht, Dushanbe-Sangvor, Dushanbe-Lakhsh, Kulob-Darvoz, Vanj-Khorog, Khorog-Ishkashim and Khorog-Murgab remains high due to heavy snowfalls, the Emergencies Committee press center says.

Therefore, Dusahnbe-Chanak and Dushanbe-Khorog highways are temporarily closed for traffic, the Tajik emergency management agency said on Tuesday.

The Emergencies Committee advises people throughout much of the country not to travel unnecessarily to mountain areas.
