President Emomali Rahmon yesterday congratulated Mr. Sergio Mattarella upon his re-election as the President of the Italian Republic, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  

In his message of congratulations, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, sincerely congratulates Sergio Mattarella on his re-election “to the high post of President of the Italian Republic.”

“With best regards, I wish you good health and success in fulfilling your responsible duties, and peace, stability, ever-increasing progress and prosperity to the friendly people of Italy.

“We express satisfaction with the current level of friendship and cooperation between Tajikistan and Italy, we are interested in their comprehensive development and expansion in all areas of mutual interest.

“In this context, we are ready for consistent joint efforts to advance this process at various levels, especially at the highest and high levels.

“I am sure that partnership relations between our countries will continue to develop and become enriched with new content in accordance with the fundamental interests of the parties.”

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Italian Republic were established on May 15, 1992.

Italian company Webuild (new name for Salini Impregilo S.p.A) has been constructing the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan.  A cooperation agreement between Tajikistan and the Italian company for the design, purchase of equipment and construction of the Roghun HPP was signed in July 2016. 

Joint Tajik-Italian Company “Javoni” operates in Tajikistan and is specialized mainly in the production of finished products from denim, corduroy and light clothing fabrics.

On November 15, 2018, the first round of political consultations was took place between the republic of Tajikistan and the Italian republic.

The second round of political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Italian Republic was held on January 30, 2020. 

The third round of political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Italian Republic was held in the format of videoconference on June 23, 2021.  

During the political consultations, the parties exchanged views on the state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries in political, economic, trade, cultural and educational and security fields.
