Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received visiting Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major-General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed a broad range of issues reacted to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral collaboration between Tajikistan and Iran.

A special attention was reportedly paid to security and military-and-technical cooperation between the two countries.  

They underlined the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation in addressing modern challenges and threats such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other transnational organized crimes.

Meanwhile, IRNA reports that speaking during the meeting, President Rahmon noted that historical common grounds and the same language used by the two nations have provided a unique chance for further enhancement of bilateral relations in different defensive, military, cultural, political, and economic areas. 

Referring to the inauguration of an Iranian factory for building drones in Tajikistan, he reportedly said that the armed forces of his country welcome any kind of defensive and military cooperation with Iran. 

In the meantime, the Iranian side referred to the strategic position of Iran and Tajikistan in the region and said that expansion of different military cooperation with Tajikistan is high on the agenda of Tehran, according to IRNA.
