President Emomali Rahmon has dismissed two judges for discrediting the honor and dignity of a judge, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

By president’s decree the judge at the Economic Court of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) Jamshed Nosiri was dismissed “because of an act that discredits the honor and dignity of a judge.”

By president’s decree the judge of the court in Bobjon-Ghafourov district, Sughd province Rustam Saydahmadzoda was dismissed with the same wording.

The president’s official website has not given details of their wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, says Rustam Saydahmadzoda was detained in Dushanbe on June 29 and a court in Dushanbe has reportedly ordered pretrial detention of two months for him.

Saydahmadzoda is charged with providing knowingly false information and abuse of authority.

According to Radio Ozodi, Rustam Saydahmadzoda denies accusations and has stated that he will prove his innocence during a two-month investigation.

Radio Ozodi also noted that Ms. Aziza Haidarova, a clerk to Rustam Saydahmadzoda, has been detained on suspicion of fraud.

According to Radio Ozodi, more than 400 judges work in Tajikistan, and about thirty of them have been fired, detained and jailed over the past decade for discrediting the honor and dignity of a judge.  The authorities have not published what for the judges were fired and convicted, but some sources told Radio Ozodi that they were charged with bribery.
