On Tuesday August 23, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held phone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to the Tajik president official website. 

The parties reportedly discussed separate aspects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation and prospects of further expansion of strategic partnership.

They also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including the latest developments in Afghanistan. 

Rahmon and Putin reportedly reached an agreement to continue contacts on the mentioned issues, noting the importance of further expansion of multidimensional cooperation between their countries.

The presidents also discussed schedule and agenda of upcoming multilateral events, including the topics of the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that will take place in the Uzbek city of Samarkand next year.
