Taliban authorities visit Uzbekistan to discuss border security issues

Afghan media reports say a delegation from the Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs of Afghanistan has traveled to Uzbekistan and discussed border security issues with Uzbek authorities.

Afghanistan’s Khaama Press news agency reports that Taliban’s Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs said in a statement on July 8 that the sides have thoroughly discussed the border security issues were thoroughly discussed between the two sides. 

Mawlavi Ghulam Nabi Sameem, the head of border and tribal affairs department of Taliban for northern Jawzjan province reportedly spoke about the challenges local residents faced along the border.  

According to Khaama Press, the Taliban authorities promised their Uzbek counterparts that they will not allow insurgent groups to use Afghan soil against Uzbekistan.

Taliban officials did not provide further details on what they meant by “border issues”, however, several rockets have reportedly been launched to Uzbekistan over the past two years. The Islamic State (IS) terror group militants reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks. 

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has continuously warned that thousands of IS militants are positioned in Afghanistan’s northern border, which can strike severe threats to the security of Central Asia’s nations, as per Khaama Press.

Contrary, Afghanistan’s de facto authorities have denied such claims and termed them as propaganda and baseless allegations aimed at destroying Afghanistan’s relations with its neighbors.
