A citizen of Tajikistan, Hasan Mukhtarov, was detained on charges of polygamy. In the broadcast of the Ministry of Internal Affairs "Akhbori VKD" it is reported that the man, posing as a cleric, allegedly entered into a Muslim marriage with 13 women.

According to the details of the investigation, Mukhtarov turned to women, posing as a "Mullah", and offered to conclude a marriage with him.

The plot also indicates that among these women were both those with whom he had been married for some time, and those with whom he limited himself only to a formal wedding.

Mukhtarov also presented himself as a specialist in the exorcism of spirits and genies, and by this he gained the trust of women, the plot notes.

The Interior Ministry does not disclose the names of the women, but at least 7 of them testified against Mukhtarov.

One of them told about her marriage with him, which lasted 6 years, during which they had two children.

Another woman stated that she met him in 2009 when she came to him for treatment, and their marriage lasted 12 years, in which two children were also born.

However, as she claims, they often quarreled because of his connections with other women.

"Every day I heard rumors that he was walking with different women. And enters into a Muslim marriage with them," the woman says. – We often quarreled because of this, and also he did not let me out of the house, did not even allow me to visit my parents."

Speaking about his spirituality, the woman noted that he did not even read the prayer.

The third girl, who also met Mukhtarov in order to recover from her illness, said that she had been with him for a month.

Another girl met him on the social network Facebook. After talking for 10 days, he came to Tajikistan, but did not name from where. They entered into a Muslim marriage and lived together for 4 months: until she found out that he still had wives, she left him.

Another woman said that Hasan Mukhtarov came to her house to "read" her daughter. And meanwhile, when he found out that she was divorced, he told her that he had also separated from his wife and asked her to marry him. The woman agreed, their "marriage" lasted only three days.

The plot notes that the man did not provide for his wives and children in any way. Mukhtarov was charged with polygamy, although the exact article is not called.

Article 170 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan "Bigamy or polygamy" provides for a fine or imprisonment for up to five years.

The case with Mukhtarov caused a heated debate in social networks, focusing on the problem of polygamy in the country.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Justice, for the period from 2020 to mid-2022, 254 cases of polygamy were investigated, including marriages with two women or more.
