The first meeting of transport ministers of Central Asia’s nations took place in Dushanbe on September 13, according to the press center of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan (MoT).

The meeting was chaired by Tajik Minister of Transport s Preside and its participants included Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev, Uzbek Minister of Transport Ilham Mahkamov and Director of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev.  

The meeting was held in accordance with Clause 12 of the Roadmap on Expansion of the Regional Cooperation designed for 2022-2024.

The meeting participants reportedly announced their intention to create necessary conditions for development of the transport and logistics services, warehouses and production capacity.  

As it was noted at the meeting, the purpose of this initiative is to strengthen trade ties between Central Asian nations and other countries.  

The meeting participants reportedly discussed proposals and opportunities for collaboration and signed a joint communique on transport and logistics. 

The communique emphasizes the importance of resolving current and future issues aimed at supporting and developing intermodal and multimodal transboundary and transit transport services between Central Asia’s nations through using bilateral and multilateral platforms for improvement of the integrated transport routes.  

The meeting participants also endorsed the agreement on strengthening the ground transport connectivity in Central Asia, which is planned to be signed at the fifth Central Asian summit, which is scheduled to take place in Dushanbe on September 14-15.
