On Thursday September 14, Tajik President met here with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and in a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and  the agendas of the mentioned high-level meeting that are taking place in Dushanbe on September 14 and 15.

Tajik leader reportedly expressed confidence that the results of the high-level events will become a factor in strengthening intraregional cooperation 

Rahmon and Berdimuhamedow, in particular, discussed ways of further expansion of trade and economic cooperation as well as cultural and humanitarian ties between their countries.  

In this context, they reportedly pointed to the necessity of intensifying activities of the Tajik-Turkmen intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation.  

In the course of the talks, the parties also exchanged views on a number of issues being of mutual interest, the Tajik president’s official website added.
