The total funds needed to implement the Roghun Hydroelectric Power Project are now estimated at 6 billion US dollars, US$1 billion more than it was previously noted.
A loan agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) on financing this project, which is published on the Justice Ministry’s portal for legal information, says the total cost of the construction of the Roghun hydropower plant is 6 billion US dollars and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2031.
Recall, a loan agreement for 100 million US dollars was signed here on December 4 between the Government of Tajikistan, represented by Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, Minister of Finance, and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by Sultan Abdurahman Al-Marshad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
This loan is allocated for co-financing the construction of the Roghun hydropower plant’s facilities to provide the renewable energy, increase generation of “green” energy and promotion the “green” economy in Tajikistan.
The loan is reportedly provided for the period of 30 years with a grace period of 8 years under the annual interest rate of 1.5 percent.
The agreement notes that other partners for development are also interested in financing this project.
