Tokayev thanks Rahmon for support

On Saturday January 8, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The parties reportedly discussed the current developments in Kazakhstan and Kazakh president informed Emomali Rahmon about practical measures taken by the Kazakh authorities to take the situation under control, restore peace and stability in the country as well as about far-reaching goals of the instigators of tragic events to seize power in the country.

“In this context, Kazakhstan president thanked the head of our state and the people of Tajikistan for support and sending a limited contingent of Tajik troops to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping mission,” the Tajik president’s official website says.

Recall, a joint meeting of both chamber of the parliament took place Friday, January 7.  The members of parliament reportedly discussed only one issue – the sending of troops to Kazakhstan as part of a peacekeeping mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Parliamentarians discussed only one issue on Friday January 7 — the sending of troops to Kazakhstan as part of a peacekeeping mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).  They reportedly unanimously voted for sending Tajik peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.

Tajikistan’s Defense Ministry press center Friday morning confirmed in an interview with Asia-Plus that 200 Tajik peacekeepers will be sent to Kazakhstan in the near future.
