DUSHANBE
, July 14, Asia-Plus — The issue of compensation by Turkish construction company “Emek Insaat” of damages to the
Dushanbe
mayor’s office for half-finished water park in the Tajik capital is still being discussed in
Turkey
, Amirkhoja Ghoibnazarov, Chairman of Tajikistan’s
Higher Economic Court
, remarked at a news conference in
Dushanbe
on July 14.
According to him, expeditious settlement of this case depends on the Tajik side, which should take part in hearings in
Turkey
’s arbitration court, which is considering the case pitting the
Dushanbe
mayor’s office against the Turkish construction company “Emek Insaat”. “The
Dushanbe
mayor’s office is asking for some US$8 million in damages after the Turkish company left the water park in
Dushanbe
half-finished,” Mr. Ghoibnazarov said.
According to him, no one representative from the Tajik side has so far left for
Turkey
to attend the hearings.
We will recall the
Dushanbe
mayor’s office and
Turkey
’s Emek Insaat concluded a contract totaling US$2,5 million in 2004 on the construction of a water park in the Tajik capital. The Turkish company began the construction but later it demanded further US$2.9 million for the completion of construction of the facility. After the Tajik side refused to provide additional funds, the Turkish firm stopped the construction works and left
Tajikistan
.
For its part, the
Dushanbe
mayor’s office appealed to
Tajikistan
’s
Higher Economic Court
against the Turkish company, asking for US$8 million in damages.
