On Saturday April 20, President Emomali Rahmon and Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali attended official opening of a number of industrial and social facilities, including two hotels, in Dushanbe, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

A multifunctional building with a four-star Firdavsi Hotel was reportedly commissioned in Dushanbe’s Shohmansour district.

The hotel is located on the 13th to 22nd floors of this 22-story complex.  The Tajik president’s official website says the facility was built by domestic businessmen Bakhtiyor Saidov and Hikmatullo Muqimov in cooperation with Muqim-1 Company.  The hotel has 103 rooms.  This project has reportedly created 250 new jobs.

The building also has shopping and service centers, entertainment and recreation centers, a meeting hall with 57 seats, a restaurant and a canteen, a gym, a bathroom and other auxiliary facilities, and an underground parking lot for vehicles.  On the top floor of the building there is a place for sitting and summer rest for 150 people.

58 office rooms are located on the 3rd to 12th floors of the building and are equipped with all necessary facilities.

A five-star Kangurt Grand Hotel was built in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district.  This nine-story hotel was reportedly built by domestic entrepreneurs.  84 local residents will get jobs in the new hotel.

Kangurt Grand Hotel has 98 rooms, including for high-ranking guests, and can accommodate 164 clients at a time.  The hotel reportedly has all necessary facilities, including a venue for various conferences, a meeting hall with 40 seats and a spacious restaurant with 160 seats, sports hall furnished with exercise and training equipment and spa.   The hotel has a fully equipped and modern cafe, which can serve 140 people at a time.

According to some sources, thirty-six hotels of different class now function in Dushanbe; five of them are five-star hotels.  In total, these 36 hotels reportedly have 1,912 rooms.

The authorities substantiate the necessity of building new hotels by development of tourism sector in the country.

The government has provided benefits on construction of tourism facilities, in particular hotels.  Thus, companies constructing such hotels have been exempted from paying value added tax (VAT) and customs duties.

Meanwhile, specialists working in the hotel business say hotels functioning in Dushanbe are more than enough to meet needs of guests of the capital.  According to them, Dushanbe needs cheap hostels and motels and not five-star hotels.  Currently, only eight hostels and two motels with totaling 66 rooms now operate in Dushanbe.
