On average residents of Tajikistan reportedly sleep 8 hours per day and work only 1 hour per day

The Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan has published a survey on the use of a time budget by the population of the country. 

A time budget is an allocation of the entire fund of the time of day (week, month, year, etc.) for all types of activities carried out by a particular collection people. 

The survey findings show that within one day the population of the republic aged 10 years and older spends the most time on personal care: sleep; meal; and personal hygiene.   

On average, each resident of the country reportedly spends 12 hours and 53 minutes, or 53.7 percent of all day per day on personal care, with 8 hours and 26 minutes spend on sleep, 2 hours and 43 minutes spent on meal, and 1hour and 43 minutes spent on personal hygiene. 

Housekeeping reportedly comes second; Tajikistan residents spend on average 4 hours 4 minutes or 17 percent day on housekeeping per day; women spend 5 hours and 16 minutes on housekeeping, while men spend only 2 hours and 35 minutes on housekeeping.

On average 1 hour and 22 minutes are reportedly spent on media;  most of this time is spent on watching, and only 8 minutes are allocated for reading books.  

Next come communication and leisure: on average 1 hour and 20 minutes, or 5.6 percent of day. 

Work comes in the fifth place: on average 1 hour and 17 minutes, or 5.34 percent of day. 

Tajikistan residents spend on average 1 hour and 1 minute, or 4.3 percent of day on community service, and 48 minutes, or 3.4 percent of day on learning   

Least people in Tajikistan reportedly engage in sports and active activities: on average only 12 minutes, or 0.85 percent of day.  

The survey was conducted under support of the World Bank.  This type of survey has not been conducted in Tajikistan before. 

The survey that was conducted from September 15 to December 15 last year reportedly polled 13,150 people over 10 years old, with 60 percent of them being women and 40 percent – men.
