In the new academic year in Tajikistan, about 260 thousand first-graders will go to the first grade, including 125 thousand girls and 135 thousand boys. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic.

"September 1, despite the fact that this day falls on Sunday, has been declared a school day in all educational institutions of the country," the ministry noted.

This year, children born before December 31, 2017 will go to the first grade.

To date, there are 3,991 secondary educational institutions in Tajikistan. 2.28 million schoolchildren study in the country's schools. The educational process is provided by more than 127.6 thousand teachers.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan reported that from August 15, a special commission, which includes representatives of the mayor's office, district hukumats and the Department of Education, begins checking schools for the readiness of educational institutions for the beginning of the school year.
