Who builds roads in Tajikistan and who pays for it?

Tajikistan's highways have been recognized as the highest quality in Central Asia. What contributed to this?

In the latest ranking of the World Economic Forum on road quality, Tajikistan ranked 50th among 141 countries in the world. Kazakhstan was in 93rd place, Kyrgyzstan was in 113th place, and Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were not in the ranking.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the construction, rehabilitation and modernization of the republic's road infrastructure contributed to a high place in the rating.

The ministry notes that one of the strategic goals of the government of the country is to break the communication deadlock.

To achieve this goal, according to the Ministry of Transport, 2407.8 km of roads, 274 bridges, 2 three-level and 2 two-level intersections, 7 transport tunnels have been reconstructed and repaired over the past 32 years.

In total, 58 projects were implemented in the country's transport sector during this period, with a total cost of about $2.2 billion.

According to the Ministry of Transport, 12 state investment projects in the transport sector worth more than 9.6 billion somoni are currently being implemented, within the framework of which more than 1,500 kilometers of roads will be built.

Over $723 million is allocated for the implementation of these projects, in particular, about $331 million in gratuitous assistance and more than $334 million in loans from development partners, as well as budget funds in the amount of about $58 million.

The RogunObigarmNurobod highway (75 km) is under construction, with a total budget of $178.1 million. The project is funded by a grant from the Asian Development Bank ($110 million), a loan from the OPEC Fund ($40 million) and the Government of Tajikistan (28.1 million).

In addition, the KalaiKhumb Vanch highway the border of the Rushan district (93 km) is being restored at a cost of over $200 million.

The Ministry of Transport notes that in accordance with the project, 15 automobile bridges, two tunnels (total length 5.2 thousand meters), 5 anti-avalanche galleries (438 meters) are planned to be built on this site.

The implementation of projects for the construction of a number of local roads is also continuing: Bekabad Dekhmoy, Dekhmoy Bobojon Gafurov, Bobojon Gafurov Histevarz and Kanibadam Kuchkak, with a total length of 52 km.

It is planned to allocate over $60 million for these works.

The construction of the Bokhtar Levakant Lolazor Dangara roads (69 km), worth over $65 million and Hulbuk Temurmalik Kangurt roads (59 km), worth about $73 million, is underway in Khatlon region.
