The median income of Tajik residents, according to the WiseVoter portal, in 2023 was $5.33 per day. The global average is $16.09.

Tajikistan ranks 105th among 162 countries in terms of median income.

Among the Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan is the highest in the ranking ($10.42). The median income in Kyrgyzstan was $5.43, in Turkmenistan – $2.4, in Uzbekistan – $1.23, and in Russia – $17.41.

It is noteworthy that Tajikistan is 2.2 times ahead of Turkmenistan and 4.3 times ahead of Uzbekistan in this indicator.

The median income reflects the amount of funds that the average resident of a country receives. To determine this indicator, all employees are divided into two equal parts: half of the employees should have incomes above this amount, and the other half should have lower incomes. For example, among the incomes of conditional five people in the amounts of 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 thousand somoni, the median is 6 thousand somoni, that is, the indicator that is located in the middle.

Luxembourg is the world leader in median income ($69.48). Norway ($65.30), the United Arab Emirates ($65.14), the United States ($65.04), Switzerland ($64.35) are next.

At the very bottom of the rating are Congo ($1.46), Uzbekistan ($1.23) and Madagascar ($1.12).

It should be noted that in the statistics of Tajikistan and the countries of the region, the average monthly nominal salary is used to determine the standard of living of the population.

As of April 1st of this year, the average salary in Tajikistan was $208, in Uzbekistan – $389, in Kyrgyzstan – $407, in Kazakhstan – $808.

The average monthly nominal salary in Tajikistan is calculated based on the accrued salary fund (both in cash and in kind) of employees on the payroll (including part-time workers) by dividing by the number of employees. The salary fund includes accrued amounts in cash and in kind for time worked and work performed, unworked but paid time (for example, annual vacations), surcharges and allowances, bonuses and one-time incentives, compensation payments related to work hours and working conditions.
