President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has called on member nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to intensify collaboration in the field of security in response to increasing global and regional threats.

Rahmon delivered this message on May 16 during a meeting in Dushanbe with the heads of security and intelligence services from CIS countries, who were attending the 56th session of the CIS Council of Security Agencies and Special Services.

According to the Tajik president’s press office, Rahmon emphasized the need for greater coordination between the region’s countries in the face of modern challenges, such as international terrorism, extremism, radicalism, drug trafficking, illicit arms circulation, and the rise of cybercrime.

“Amid a complex international political environment, the president highlighted the growing pressure of global risks and threats on regional security architecture,” the statement said.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan has already adopted two national strategies to combat terrorism and extremism and intends to continue this work through the "Dushanbe Process on Countering Terrorism and Extremism," a platform aimed at facilitating international security dialogue.

He reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to deepening cooperation within the CIS framework to jointly counter emerging threats.

Tajikistan currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the CIS for 2025. The country's key priorities include enhancing regional security cooperation and improving the effectiveness of CIS structures.

Several events have already taken place as part of Tajikistan’s chairmanship, including inter-ministerial consultations in Minsk focused on reforming the organization and preparing for upcoming high-level meetings. Among them are the CIS Heads of Government meeting scheduled for June 5 and the CIS Heads of State summit, set to take place in Dushanbe on October 10.
