Dushanbe is preparing to welcome more than 2,200 delegates from 65 countries and 70 international organizations for a high-level International Conference on Glacier Preservation, scheduled for May 29-31.  An official source within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan confirmed these details to Asia-Plus.

Among the registered participants are government officials, representatives from the United Nations and international institutions, as well as climatologists, environmentalists, and activists.  The conference is set to become the largest regional platform for discussing climate change and sustainable water resource management.

The event is attracting significant media attention, with over 350 journalists registered to cover it.  Of them, 150 are from international media outlets, including prominent broadcasters such as Euronews, Al Jazeera, and leading Iranian TV channels.

The conference will take place at the Kokhi Somon complex, which features a state-of-the-art press center equipped with high-speed internet and live session broadcast screens.  This setup will enable journalists to quickly report and share updates across social media platforms.

The conference is held within the framework of the International Year of Glacier Preservation, proclaimed on the initiative of Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon and supported by more than 150 UN member states.

Organizers hope the conference outcomes will spark new international initiatives aimed at glacier protection and combating climate threats.
