Prices for vegetables and fruits increased in Tajikistan despite production growth

Over the first four months of this year, Tajikistan has recorded a rise in prices for major groups of food products.  This is reported in a four-month review by the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The largest price increase was reportedly seen in vegetables — on average by 24.7%.

For example, compared to the same period last year, cabbage and carrots became 1.6 times more expensive, potatoes rose by 12.2%, and onions by 9.7%.

At the same time, official data show that vegetable production volumes increased.  Since the beginning of the year, over 146,200 tons of vegetables has been harvested in the country, including 765 tons of potatoes (2.3% more than in 2024) and 109,283 tons of onions (growth of 26.5%)

Fruit prices also increased — on average by 11.4%.  Meanwhile, fruit production grew by 16.3%, reaching 1,122 tons.

Some other food products have also become more expensive over the same four-month period: oils and fats — on average by 3.8%; sunflower oil — by 4.5%; cottonseed oil — by 3.9%; meat products — by 1.6%; mutton — +6.5%; beef — +1.1%; and non-alcoholic beverages — by 0.7%.

Meanwhile, some food products, on contrary have decreased in price: flour — by 6.4%; chicken meat — by 1.8%; rice — by 1%; and sugar — by 1.1%.

Over the reporting period, non-foodstuffs have risen 0.5 percent in cost mainly due to household appliances.

At the same time, according to the Statistics Agency, fuel and lubricants became cheaper by 5.1%, including: liquefied gas — by 5.9%; diesel fuel — by 6.4%; and gasoline — by 3.7%.

Over the first four months of this year, prices and rates for services rendered to the population have increased by 3.6 percent.  The ones that increased were: utilities — by 7.1%; education sector — by 15%; housing repair services — by 15%; transport — by 1.3%; and household services — by 1%.
