President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met on November 14 with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in Dushanbe, to discuss bilateral cooperation within the framework of the countries’ strategic partnership and alliance.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the meeting focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary ties as a key element of Tajik-Russian relations.

President Rahmon reportedly highlighted the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing political dialogue, trade, economic cooperation, and humanitarian ties between the two nations. He emphasized that inter-parliamentary collaboration is an essential part of the broader partnership and called for enhanced engagement of sectoral parliamentary committees—especially in the areas of economy, investment, energy, healthcare, and environmental protection.

Both sides also underscored the importance of experience-sharing in legislative processes, digital transformation, support for entrepreneurship, and social policy development.

During the meeting, special attention was given to Tajikistan’s current chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the outcomes of recent high-level summits.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the recent state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Tajikistan and the successful hosting of the CIS Heads of State Summit and the Central Asia–Russia Summit in Dushanbe.

The discussion also included an exchange of views on continuing constructive cooperation within regional and international organizations.
