Tajik leader to participate in CSTO summit in Bishkek

Date:

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon is set to participate in the session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), scheduled for November 26–27 in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, under the chairmanship of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. The report comes from Kaktus.media.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation of Rahmon's participation from the press service of the Tajik presidency.

The summit will also be attended by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The meeting is expected to play a key role in ensuring continuity of CSTO initiatives as chairmanship transitions from Kyrgyzstan to Russia in 2026.

Over ten documents are expected to be signed during the session, aimed at strengthening collective defense mechanisms, improving security cooperation among member states, and enhancing military-political interaction.

In addition, a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Council of Defense Ministers, and the Committee of Security Council Secretaries will be held in Bishkek.

According to TASS, the events will also include the formal appointment of the new CSTO Secretary-General. Kazakh representative Imangali Tasmagambetov, who currently serves as Deputy Secretary-General, will succeed Kyrgyzstan's Taalaatbek Masadykov,. Tasmagambetov will assume his new role on January 1, 2026.

The CSTO is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, with the primary goal of protecting member states from external armed aggression. In 2024, Armenia suspended its participation in the bloc and announced its intention to withdraw.
