Tajikistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has released details regarding a fire that broke out at the entrance area of Dushanbe’s largest market, Korvon, on the morning of December 6. The blaze reportedly affected several retail pavilions located on Krupskaya Street in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district.
According to officials, firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:21 AM. By that time, the fire had already engulfed carpet shops, bedding stores, and a beauty salon. The affected area measured approximately 180 square meters, with a significant risk of the flames spreading to other sections of the market.
The fire was fully extinguished by 10:33 AM. The ministry has not yet disclosed the cause of the fire or the amount of damage caused, stating that an investigation is underway.
Videos shared on social media show the fire consuming shops located near the main entrance gates of the Korvon market.
Market fires: a recurring issue
Just weeks earlier, a large-scale fire occurred at the Guliston market in the northern city of Panjakent, also known as Lattabozor. According to local fire authorities, the blaze began around 10:10 PM on November 12 and quickly spread across 600 square meters.
The fire was brought under control by approximately 2:30 AM the next day. The effort involved 7 fire engines, 4 water trucks, and 87 personnel from Panjakent’s firefighting units. In total, 280 covered stalls and 20 shops selling household goods and clothing were destroyed or damaged.
The State Fire Service reported that thanks to prompt action, goods and infrastructure worth an estimated 27 million somonis were saved. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the relevant authorities.
