Salaries for teachers and doctors in Kyrgyzstan expected to double starting April 2026

Date:

Starting April 1, 2026, the salaries of teachers and healthcare workers in Kyrgyzstan will be increased by an average of 100%, as announced by President Sadyr Japarov on December 25.  Fergana news agency, citing Kyrgyz media outlets, says the president's statement was made during the session of the People's Kurultai (national congress).

Initially, the plan was to increase salaries by 50%, but after further discussions, it was decided to double the pay, thanks to a presidential compensation allowance.

Currently, the average salary for teachers is 26,000 som (approximately $297). After the increase, starting in April 2026, it will rise to about 52,000 som ($594). Teacher salaries will vary depending on factors such as educational qualifications, teaching experience, certification level, location, subject taught, and weekly teaching hours.

"For example, in a city school, a young teacher without teaching experience and with a basic education will receive 36,800 som ($420) starting in April, with a take-home salary of about 31,200 som ($356). A high school math teacher working in a remote mountain area, with a regional coefficient of 1.8 and over 30 years of experience, will see their salary rise to 97,600 som ($1,116), up from 65,800 som ($752)," said Japarov.

As for healthcare workers, the current average salary for doctors is 31,500 som ($360). Starting April 1, 2026, their salaries will rise to 62,500 som ($614), with take-home pay of about 50,000 som ($570).

"In cities, a doctor just starting their career, without experience, will receive a net salary of 35,500 som ($406), a significant improvement compared to the current 16,900 som ($193). In a remote mountain area, a doctor with a senior category and 30 years of experience will earn about 75,700 som ($865) for one full-time position," the president clarified.

In addition to teachers and doctors, the salary increase will also apply to artists and coaches. The average salary for artists will increase from 20,700 som ($236) to 39,000 som ($446) after taxes, while coaches will earn around 45,000 som ($514) after deductions.

Moreover, starting from April 1, 2026, the salaries of technical and support staff will also increase by an average of 80%, thanks to an additional presidential compensation allowance of 5,000 som ($57) per position.

These salary hikes are expected to significantly improve the financial well-being of workers in these crucial sectors, aligning with the government’s goal of enhancing the quality of education and healthcare in the country.
