DUSHANBE, April 16, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first quarter of this year, military courts have considered 165 criminal proceedings instituted against 190 people, the chairman of the Military Board of the Supreme Court Sayfullo Giyoyev announced at a press conference in Dushanbe today.
According to him, 52 servicemen of the Ministry of Defense, 13 servicemen of the National Guard, 12 servicemen of the Committee for emergency Situations, 83 servicemen of the main Border Directorate within the State Committee for National Security, 12 servicemen of the Interior Troops Directorate within the Ministry of Interior, 4 servicemen of the Penal System of the Ministry of Justice, 5 officers of the military registration and enlistment offices, as well as 13 civilians stood trials for different crimes, including drug trafficking, bullying (the often brutal hazing of new recruits by older soldier), abuse of authority, desertion, etc.
