DUSHANBE, October 5, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) is concerned over the fate of one of its activists in Rasht district, Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, a spokesman for IRP, told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.
According to him, Nazriddin Safarzoda who is IRP member in Rasht’s local council was detained by the country’s law enforcement authorities ten days ago. “Our party applied to the law enforcement authorities for clarification and asked them the reason for the detention of Nazriddin Safarzoda,” he said.
In the meantime, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that Safarzoda’s sister, Shafoat Safarzoda, says that her brother was taken by the law enforcement officers from his home in the village of Navdona on September 25.
Sayfullozoda says the IRP leadership cannot get in touch with its organization in Rasht because of lack of telephone communication with the district.
IRP had two members in Rasht’s legislature – Husniddin Davlatov and Nazriddin Safarzoda.
The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) detained Husniddin Davlatov on September 10. On September 20, he was shown on state television. Davlatov said he was arrested by government forces because he had supplied his brother, Alovuddin Davlatov, with explosives and military uniforms. He added that his brother organized a training camp for local and foreign youth in which he taught them how to carry out terrorist attacks. An extraordinary session of the Rasht local council was convened on September 21 and it members voted to repeal immunity status of Husniddin Davlatov,
