DUSHANBE, September 25, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Red Book will be revised and republished soon, Abdusattor Saidov, the director of the Institute of Zoology and Parasitology within the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, the government has already confirmed the resolution on re-editing Red Book of Tajikistan.
The first Red Book of Tajikistan was published in 1988 and it represented the Soviet part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. “Under requirements of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Red book must be republished each ten year,” said Saidov, “Red Book is a permanent document and it must reflect all changes in composition and structure of flora and fauna.”
He added that a consultative workshop with participation of researchers would take place next week to discuss the structure of the new edition, preparation of materials, composition of the editorial board and other issues.
Red Book of Tajikistan is a state document established for documenting rare and endangered species of animals and plants that exist within the territory of the country. The book has been adopted by Tajikistan to enact a common agreement on rare and endangered species protection.
Red Book is dedicated to provide a central information source in organizing studies and monitoring programs on rare and endangered species and their habitats.
