DUSHANBE, September 8, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A cooperation agreement between the ministries of agriculture of Tajikistan ad China was signed here on September 6, the source at the Tajik Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) said.

According to him, the document was signed in the framework of the visit of a delegation of China’s Xinjiang-Yughur Autonomous Region (XUAR), led by Mr. Lu Hunyun (phonetically spelled), Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture, XUAR to Tajikistan.

Tajik Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov and Mr. Lu considered a broad range of issues related to cooperation between the sides in the fields of plant growing, cattle husbandry, and poultry.  They also discussed establishment of joint ventures for processing farm produce in Tajikistan.

The singed agreement provides for establishment of cooperation in enhancing the cotton subsector in Tajikistan, in particular use of new technologies, including drip irrigation.  The document also envisages cooperation in creating permanent greenhouses as well as enhancing fish breeding, bee keeping and poultry in Tajikistan.

Tajik MoA presented a draft program for cooperation between Tajikistan and XUAR for 2010-2015 to the delegation for consideration; the program provides for use of new cotton production technologies, the source added.
