DUSHANBE, August 3, 2010, Asia-Plus — Issues related to cooperation between the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the United Nations were discussed at the CSTO consultations in Moscow on August 2, according to the CSTO Secretariat.
The meeting, presided by the CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, brought together authorized representatives of the CSTO member nations, heads of core departments of MFAs and representatives of embassies of the CSTO nations to coordinate positions of the CSTO member nations on the agenda of the upcoming 65th session of the UN General Assembly and discuss common priorities at the upcoming session.
They in particular, considered issues related to reform of the United Nations, including the Security Council, cooperation between CSTO and UN, the latest developments in Afghanistan, etc.
They also discussed further strengthening of increasing role of a regional factor in global efforts to address new challenges and threats and provide peace and stability.
Participants in the consultations underlined the significance of steps taken towards further expansion of cooperation between the CSTO and UN secretariats.
