KHUJAND, July 2, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The 21-year-old student from Khujand State University, Abbos Ismoilov, has got a long jail term for brutal killing of a tax driver.

The Sughd regional court sentenced Abbos Ismoilov to 28 years in prison on July 1.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of killing and robbery.  Ismoilov will serve the term in a high-security penal colony.

Judge Mavjouda Sharipova, who took in the trial, told Asia-Plus Ismoilov decided to do a crime in order to seize the car.  “On January 5, 2010, he bought a rope and household knife at Khujand’s Panjshanbe bazaar and asked taxi driver, Zikriyo Valamatov, to take him to Ghonchi district for 50 somoni,” said the judge, “On the way, he threw the rope around Valamotov’s neck and inflicted several stab wounds on him.  After that, Ismoilov tried to drive the car but got into ditch in three kilometers.  He left the car and called his relative Khurshed Mansourov to take him from there.”

Ismoilov’s relatives – Khurshed Mansourov, Ulughbek Ortiqov and Zohida Mansourova – get a jail term f two years each for not reporting the crime.
