DUSHANBE, June 29, 2010, Asia-Plus — Tajik authorities have not made worthy appraisal of role of political parties and international organizations in reestablishment of peace and national accord in the country while celebrating the 13th anniversary of the National Unity Day, a statement released by the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDPT) today said.
“Celebrations to mark the National Unity Day that were held this year in Gorno Badakhshan can promote the personality cult in our country,” the statement said, “The SDPT has never been supporter of canceling such a holiday, but we consider that celebrations on this occasion must take into account the role and place of the sides in reestablishment of peace in our country.”
The statement also notes that regionalism and nepotism, is today, a problem that may affect peace and stability in the country. “Regionalism and nepotism in personnel selection, high level of corruption, inefficient work of parliament and increasing people’s distrust in government are the factors that may negatively impact peace and stability in society.”
This year, Tajik officials have forgot that the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord in Tajikistan was signed in Moscow on June 27, 1997 with participation of three parties – the Government of Tajikistan, former United Tajik Opposition (UTO), international organizations and mediator countries, the statement said.
